MILESTONES

My career roadmap has been all over the place.

I realized I was queer in 2013 and have wanted to help the queer community in some way since I realized that.

I knew I was always good at research, formulating arguments, solving problems, and listening to people, but I didn't know what I wanted to do with those skills.

I realized I wanted to go into law during my senior year of college, because it fits my skills and my goals of being an LGBTQ+ advocate.

I knew I needed a gap year after my senior year of college.

I graduated with my B.A. in economics in 2019, and am currently planning on attending law school within the next 2 years.

I'm hoping to focus on law as it pertains to LGBTQ+ people.

I'm completing the last few courses I need for COC's Pathway to Law program, which helps reduce the application cost for law school.

EXPERIENCE

Here are my extracurriculars relevant to this pathway

DURING MY HIGH SCHOOL CAREER

  • Project Linus got me interested in non profit work

  • GSA helped me connect with AOC's queer community

DURING MY COLLEGE CAREER

  • I was in my college GSA too

  • I helped start the DREAM club, which is a disability advocacy club

  • I worked at the library and at the town's historical society, where I used my research skills.

CAREER

What I'm currently doing/hope to do

I graduated with my B.A. in economics in 2019, and am currently planning on attending law school within the next 2 years. I'm hoping to focus on law as it pertains to LGBTQ+ people. I'm participating in COC's Pathway to Law program, which I'd encourage anyone who's interested in law school to look into!

ADVICE

How to maximize my time in high school?

  • Advice #1: No matter what you're interested in right now, don't be afraid to change your path. Don't keep going with something that doesn't feel right anymore just because it's what you used to want.

  • Advice #2: If you're interested in a law career, don't feel like you have to be a pre-law major.  My college didn't even have a pre-law program. Economics, philosophy, history, business, liberal arts, etc. can all be good choices for your B.A. Go with what you're interested in.
