Miles aims to examine the ethical constraints associated with Computer Science to ensure ethical practices and treatment.
Roadmap.
"Computer Science classes at COC are great introductions to the field, but will teach you nothing concrete about the field. Once you know you’re interested, use your time for self-directed learning."
MILESTONES
My career roadmap has been somewhat defined.
Became interested in programming after my dad introduced me to a free online Python class.
Began to create small programs on my own, i.e., games, keyloggers, file search engines.
Grew tired of just programming. This allowed me to realize that computer science is pointless without a purpose, and I began to apply computer science to things I was actually interested in rather than practice problems.
Employed at the College of the Canyons Math, Engineering, and Science Achievement center leading workshops on Python.
EXPERIENCE
Here are my extracurriculars relevant to this pathway
DURING MY HIGH SCHOOL CAREER
Wrote a Scheme Lisp interpreter in Python
Created Discord bots that performed administrative functions on servers with thousands of users
Wrote a program to track chess games played online and continuously find the best move as the game occurred.
DURING MY COLLEGE CAREER
Currently waiting to step foot on campus!
CAREER
What I'm currently doing/hope to do
I currently work at the College of the Canyons Math, Engineering, and Science Achievement center leading workshops on Python programming to first-generation college students. I hope to work in academia, combining the fields of computer science and ethics to ensure an ethical approach to computing in the future.
ADVICE
How to maximize my time in high school?
Advice #1: The field of computer science is nothing without application of theory. Use computer science to further your passions in all other areas, for if you one does nothing but pure computer science you will get burnt out.
Advice #2: Computer Science classes at COC are great introductions to the field, but will teach you nothing concrete about the field. Once you know you’re interested, use your time for self-directed learning.
Advice #3: Focus on fields of computer science that interest you rather than look good on a resume.
