The AOC Difference

The Academy of the Canyons offers ninth through twelfth grade school students a unique educational experience that fosters academic and personal success in the high school and college environments. In order to ensure successful learning for every student, our staff is committed to effective classroom instruction, rigorous curricula, and quality relationships between staff, students, parents, and college partners.

A UNIQUE HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

Learning is different here at AOC. Beyond exceeding academic requirements while earning college units, Academy of the Canyons students learn to become effective communicators and collaborators, and conscientious members of society who respect cultural diversity and individual differences and who understand local, national, and global issues.

WHAT IS THE FOUR-YEAR PLAN?

At the Academy, we encourage our students to engage with their academic passions in order to properly define their ambitions and their postsecondary goals.

FRESHMEN

First year Academy students focus on identity and self-awareness, developing an understanding of their personality, learning style, and personal strengths. Students develop an academic foundation and personal maturity necessary for the college environment.

SOPHOMORES

Second-year students build upon their newfound awareness for their strengths and interests to refine their understanding of career choices and civic engagement. Students explore career options and fields of study that help lay the foundation for their plans after high school.

JUNIORS

Third-year students refine their plan beyond high school and build the strengths and talents that apply to their career & college major. Students join a college that  provides opportunity for AOC staff to channel a student's classroom contributions to their strengths and talents.

SENIORS

Fourth-year students look to bridge their work at AOC to their next phase of life. Students develop a Capstone project that addresses a need in the community. AOC colleges encourage students to explore college pathways, develop portfolios, and guide extracurricular choices.

Diversity & Inclusion

Embracing our differences

We are fortunate enough to have a student body representing a significant variety of backgrounds and beliefs who learn from and with one another. When they come to AOC, they bring their talent, curiosity, and intelligence. They also bring their perspective on the world—an understanding that is deeply tied to their culture, background, and experiences. The result is a diverse, open-minded community where dialogue and debate are not only encouraged—they're inevitable.

Community

Your education goes beyond coursework. Student activities provide unique opportunities to expand your comfort zone, learn new things, and make friends. AOC has wide-ranging student organizations suited to all interests, and the community is always looking to expand its offerings.

Student organizations also help to broaden your social circle. You'll get to know classmates with different academic interests from your own, or who has a background that isn't necessarily familiar to you. At AOC, you'll always have opportunity to find common ground with your peers.
